Sunset for two at Meridiana

By

Meridiana's terrace looks west over the vines, and at the right time of day the whole estate goes gold. Part four makes that moment something to share: a Malta sunset date game for two at the table by the vines, and bottles you can open with friends at home or send to them.

A sunset date on a phone: the moments at the table, and how it's going

Ask a friend to the table

When a friend is at the estate with you, the terrace offers Sunset for two: ask them to the table by the vines. They see your invitation on their own terrace and say yes (or not; an ask that isn't answered lapses after ten minutes). Once you're both sat down, the table has its moments:

  • Toast together. You both tap to raise your glasses. If you do it within two minutes of each other, it counts, and you grow a little closer.
  • The sunset photo. It only works in the golden minutes round the real Malta sunset, which the game takes from the month, just like outside. Take it then and you get a postcard of the two of you to share.
  • Ask a question. "What would you do if…" A new one each time.
  • Share a platter. €6, paid by whoever taps it. Hunger for both of you, and a little closer again.
  • A bottle for the table. Pick one from the shop and you each get a glass.

The table shows how it's going, from one star to five, and Clara has a word to say about it. Five stars and she tells you she saved you the best table.

Bottles at home

The bottles you buy at Meridiana live in the wine rack in your fridge. Tap one and choose:

  • Pour a glass. Fun, and it counts towards your drink level: three glasses and you're tipsy, five and you're drunk.
  • Open it with guests. When friends are round at your place, everyone gets a glass, you and up to three guests: the bottle's four glasses go round. Good for a house party.
  • Give it. Send it to a friend's fridge with a short note. The gift box is €2.
  • Keep it. For a better night.

If your rack is full, new bottles wait in storage, and you bring them up when there's room.

The gift box

At the estate's shop there's also a gift box: any bottle, sent straight to a friend's fridge, for its price and €2. Your friend gets a line in their game with your note, and the bottle lands in their rack, or their storage if the rack is full. Gifts go only to friends, and never to someone who's blocked you or you've blocked.

More stamps for your passport

Four new stamps join the wine passport: a bottle given, a bottle opened with guests, a sunset for two, and the golden-minute photo. With the tour and the tastings, that's twelve of the estate's thirty.

Questions people ask

When is the golden minute?

Round the sunset for the month: from about a quarter of an hour before it to a few minutes after. The terrace shows tonight's sunset time.

Who pays on a date?

Whoever taps. The platter is €6, and a bottle for the table costs what it costs in the shop.

Can I send wine to anyone?

Only to friends, and never to someone blocked. Your note goes through the same word filter as chat.

Can I open a gift bottle at a party?

Yes. A bottle a friend sent you sits in your rack like any other: open it with your guests and everyone gets a glass. The estate behind it is Meridiana Wine Estate at Ta' Qali.
