Restrooms around Malta: you can go when you're out

By

A player asked us a fair question: is home the only place to empty the bladder? Until now, yes, and a restroom out and about was the obvious missing piece. In Malta Living your Bladder is one of six needs, and when it runs out you have an accident. That meant a dash home in the middle of a night out or a workout. Now five places have a restroom of their own.

Cynergi's restroom on a phone: the WC cubicle by the squash wall, and Use the restroom in the panel

Where the restrooms are

Each restroom is drawn in its place's own look, with a WC cubicle (door open, sign over it) and a basin under a mirror:

  • Cynergi off Tower Road in St Julian's, by the squash wall: white tiles and a blue door.
  • Café del Mar at Qawra Point, at the front of the deck: a whitewashed cabana.
  • Tokyo Club in Paceville, on the left wall past the bouncer: black, with a pink neon WC.
  • Hugo's Pub on St Rita Steps, beside the big screens: bottle green and brass.
  • SOHO The Strand in Gżira, by the front door: pale oak.

How to use one

Every restroom works the same way, so once you've used one you know them all.

Walk in, tap The restroom in the room (or pick it in the place's panel), then Use the restroom. It's free and quick, and it empties your Bladder just like the toilet at home. It keeps the place's own hours: Café del Mar's restroom is open when Café del Mar is.

When your Bladder chip turns red ("Bursting: find a toilet"), its Go now points to the nearest open one of these when it's closer than home. The Malta life simulator guide covers all six needs, and nights out in Paceville and clubs, friends and Gossip cover the places you'll be when you need one.

What happens if you leave it too late

Bladder falls steadily while you play, a little faster than Hunger, and it warns you before it runs out: under 15 the Bladder chip turns red and a 🚽 appears over your head. Let it reach 0 and you have an accident. Your Bladder resets, but Hygiene drops to nothing, Social takes a knock, people around you notice, and you feel embarrassed for a while. A restroom on your way stops all of that, and it takes a few seconds.

A long night in Paceville or a whole afternoon on the deck at Café del Mar is when it catches people out, so those were the first places to get one. If you're mid-workout at Cynergi or between meetings at SOHO, you don't have to leave either.

Why these five

They're where people spend the longest away from home: a workout, a beach-club afternoon, a night in Paceville, a match at the pub, and a day's work at SOHO. The real gyms, beach clubs and bars you'll find on a trip round Malta have customer toilets, so it was odd that ours didn't. More places will get one as their insides are redone.

Questions people ask

Is home the only place to use the toilet in Malta Living?

No. Cynergi, Café del Mar, Tokyo Club, Hugo's Pub and SOHO each have a restroom inside, free to use while the place is open.

Does using a restroom cost anything?

No. Use the restroom is free at every restroom, for tourists, permit holders and locals alike.

Can I use the restroom at Tokyo Club without getting in?

No. Tokyo Club's restroom is inside, past the bouncer, like its dance floor and bar. If the door won't let you in tonight, Hugo's Pub is a short walk up St Rita Steps.
