A multiplayer life sim in Malta: friends, clubs and Gossip
By The Malta Living team · Updated
Malta is a small island, and half the fun of living here is the people. Malta Living is a multiplayer life sim set in real Malta: you share the island with other players, and the game keeps every friendship you make, one step at a time. If you came looking for something Sims-like in Malta, but with real people to chat to, this is the part of the game for you. New here? Start with our guide to the Malta life simulator.

Tap anyone: their card
Tap any person on the map and their card opens. Up front are Message and Send money. Under them is You two: one bar from 0 to 100 that shows how close you are, with every step marked on it.
- Friends at 15
- Partner at 40
- Close friends at 70
- Best friend at 90
The card tells you the next step in words, like "15 to Friends". Below that sit the quick chats you can do when you're together, such as Say Bonġu (Maltese for good morning; Bonswa after 18:00), Have a chat and Crack a joke. Tap their picture for their full profile; Report and Block sit behind ···.
A green dot means online; a red one means quiet for 10 minutes but still there. After two hours of quiet, they've gone.
How friendships grow: a life sim with friends
Doing things together in person counts: the quick chats, parties and Join me. Real contact counts too, once a Malta day per pair:
- a conversation in Messages where you both wrote that day
- a finished game of Bixkla, a Maltese card game, or Ludo the two of you played together (more on the games)
- money sent in your one-to-one chat
- both talking in the same group or club chat
A daily cap means friendships take a few days, never a few minutes, and one-sided messages don't count: the other person has to write back. If someone joins Malta Living through your invite link, the two of you start as friends straight away.
Once you're close enough, the card shows an Ask button. You can have one partner and up to five best friends. Add as family works at any time, for up to ten people. Each one needs the other person to say yes.
Messages
Messages holds every chat you have. In a one-to-one chat you can send money (with a fee of 1%, at least 10 cents), request money, or tap 🏠 Invite over to ask a friend round. Groups take up to 12 people, with a name and an emoji. Swipe a message right to reply to it, and type @ to mention someone: they're told even if they've muted the chat. Links aren't allowed in chats. MaltaLiving Team, our chat with you, is pinned at the top.
My people finds any player by name and shows who's online and where. Our guide to every app on the phone shows where everything is.
Start a club, free
Open Clubs and tap Start a club · free. Give it a name (3 to 32 characters), pick one of six colours, choose what you do (one to three of Sport, Food, Nights out, Games, Business and Chat) and, for a public club, a usual spot on the map, like Upper Barrakka Gardens. In real Valletta, the capital, those gardens sit on a bastion with a panoramic view of the Grand Harbour. Then choose who can join: anyone, or invite only. A private club holds up to 50 people.
Every club has its own chat, also at the top of Messages, and its own link: a friend new to the game makes a character and lands straight in your club. From Members you can hand over the running or remove someone.
The game also has two clubs with their own place: Cynergi on St George's Bay, €20 for four weeks, and Sunday Run Club Malta at Ta' Qali (the open space between Attard and Mosta with the national stadium), which is free.
Gossip, the island's talk
Gossip is where players post the gist: up to 280 characters, with comments up to 200. React with 😂, 🔥, 👀 or ❤️, and type @ to tag a friend. Along the top runs Island news, written by the game: parties on now, new homes, promotions and how many were taken to the cell today. The Hot post sits on top, and 🔔 shows replies, tags and reactions.
Phone numbers, emails and links can't be posted. You can delete your own posts and comments. If you'd rather not be named in Island news, tap Don't show me. Crime watch only names someone taken to the cell if they've turned on "Name me in Crime watch". If a post crosses the line, report it: three reports hide it until a moderator looks.
Like the whole game, Gossip is for over-18s. When you're ready to bring people round, read our guide to house parties and visits, or play Malta Living free in your browser and say Bonġu to someone.
