Fishing off Marsaxlokk in Malta Living: the luzzu's catch

There's a fishing game in Malta Living, the free life sim you play in your browser, and it comes with the island's own boat: the luzzu. Take her out off Marsaxlokk, wait for the bite, pull at just the right moment, and bring home a catch for your fridge.

How to go fishing

You need a luzzu, the €9,000 painted fishing boat (see boats and yachts). Go to her berth, tap Go out on her card, and pick Fishing off Marsaxlokk. It's the luzzu's own trip: a RIB or a yacht shows "Luzzu only". Tap Cast off. Her fuel, €6, is paid once, and you're out for 45 seconds before the skipper brings you back to her berth. Like any trip, it can't be stopped halfway.

How to play

The screen turns to the sea, with your float in the middle and one big Pull button.

• Wait for the bite. The line says "Wait for the bite…" while nothing's happening.
• Pull when it says Now! The float dips, the water splashes, and the line says "Now! Pull, don't yank." Tap Pull within the moment and you've got one.
• Don't yank. A pull with no bite is an early pull. Three early pulls and the line snaps: no more fish this round.

There are five bites in a round, a few seconds apart, and each one lands one fish at most. A careful round brings in five.

Fair for everyone

The fish are decided on the server, not on your phone. It deals the bites when you cast off and keeps them to itself. Your phone only ever asks "is there a bite now?". Every pull is judged at the server's own clock. So nobody can see the bites coming, or pull before they happen.

Your catch

When the round's done, your fish go to your fridge at home as fresh fish, as far as there's room. If your fridge is full, the skipper takes the rest to the market. At home, open the fridge and tap Grill your catch: fresh off the luzzu, with lemon and olive oil, for a good meal and a bit of fun. Fresh fish keeps for two days, so grill it soon.

Can I fish from a RIB or a yacht?

No. Fishing is the luzzu's trip. Other boats see "Luzzu only" on its tile.

What happens if my fridge is full?

You keep as many fish as fit, and the skipper takes the rest to the market. Make room first if you want them all.

Does fishing earn money?

No. It's for your fridge and your table. The only cost is the luzzu's €6 of fuel.

Why did my line snap?

You pulled three times when there was no bite. Wait for "Now!" before you pull.
