Shake and pour at the Eden, and two jobs there, in Malta Living

By

Fancy a little bartender game with your night out? At the Eden on St George's Bay in Malta Living, the free life sim you play in your browser, ordering a cocktail can now be a ten-second moment with Marco at the terrace bar. And if you like it, you can work there. New here? Start with our guide to the Malta life simulator.

Marco's shake and pour on a phone: how to shake in time and pour to the line, with Shake and pour or Just bring it

Shake to the beat

Open the drinks menu at the terrace bar and order a cocktail or one of the mocktails (the Virgin Mojito, the Prickly Pear Fizz, the Pin Pop or Sunset on the Bay). Marco asks if you want to have a go. Tap Shake and pour and he starts shaking: 8 beats. Tap Shake! on each one. Every round has its own tempo, a little faster or slower, so you have to listen to it, not count from memory.

Pour to the line

Then the glass. Hold to pour and watch it fill; let go on the green line. Too little and it's a weak one, too much and it spills over the top. The line sits somewhere different each time.

Hit 7 of the 8 beats and stop within a hair of the line, and it's a Perfect pour: Marco says so, you get extra Fun on top of the drink (once an evening), and a 🎀 sits on the Eden's card until 5 in the morning. Next time you order, he remembers: "The usual, perfect as last time?"

Don't feel like it? Just bring it and the drink arrives as it always did. Beer, wine and soft drinks pour straight away. Whichever way, you pay the menu price once, and the bar's one-an-hour rule on the strong ones still holds.

Work at the bar

The Eden is also a place to work. In the Jobs app there's a new group, 🎳 The Eden, with two jobs. As a bartender (Thursday to Sunday from 19:00), orders come in while your shift is on, one every 45 seconds and up to four waiting; the Eden's card shows them. Each order is a shake and pour. A perfect one is worth a €1 tip, up to ten a shift, and lifts your performance. The ladder goes from Bartender to Head Bartender to Eden Manager, and higher.

Or run the shoe desk

As a lanes host (Wednesday to Sunday from 17:00), your shift has the shoe desk rush: thirty seconds of customers at the desk, each asking for a size between 36 and 47. Tap the right size on the rack before they've waited six seconds, or they wander off. Eight served in a rush is a solid performance boost, and you get three rushes a shift. You climb from Lanes Host to Shift Manager and up to General Manager.

Both jobs come with the usual situations at work: a regular who wants "the usual" while three orders wait, a pinsetter that jams on lane 7, a sore loser at the desk. Pick well and your performance climbs; see our guide to jobs and careers for how promotions work.

Fair for everyone

Every round is set and judged by the server: the tempo, the line and the queue come from a seed your phone never chooses, and your taps are checked there. Tips are capped per shift, so nobody can farm the bar. Real bartending is a craft, from the cocktail shaker up; ours is ten seconds of fun. After your shift, check the Eden's bowling league and bowl your three best games. Start playing and order a Strike tonight.

Questions people ask

Do I pay more for a shake and pour?

No. You pay the drink's menu price once, the same as tapping it. A perfect pour adds Fun on top, free.

How much can a bartender earn in tips?

A perfect pour is a €1 tip, up to ten a shift, on top of your shift's pay.

What if I miss the beat?

Nothing bad: you still get your drink. Only a perfect pour gives the extra Fun and gets Marco to remember you.
