Tidier clubs: club chats in Malta Living put people first

By

A club chat in a life sim should be about the people in it. In Malta Living, the free life sim of Malta you play in your browser, busy clubs were filling up with the game's own posts: who joined, who's going, Meet here cards, finished parties and bank jobs. A club that wanted to talk about real things lost its conversation under them. So club chats now keep people's words up front, and everything else sits where you can check it at a glance.

A phone showing a club chat: four tiles at the top for who's live, a party starting in 20 minutes, a member held with bail and who joined today, then a folded line of three updates and a party invite with I'm going

Four tiles at the top

Under the club's name, four small tiles answer the questions everyone opens a club to ask:

  • Live: faces of who's in the game right now, and where someone is if they sent Meet here ("Maria · Café Cordina").
  • Next: the club's next meet-up or party, with its time. It turns gold when it starts within the hour: "in 20 min".
  • Heist: who's been held after a job, with the time left and Bail, or a crew that still needs people, with the spots left. It's in red while it matters.
  • Joined: who joined the club today.

A tile with nothing to say just isn't there, so a quiet club stays quiet.

Club now: one tap away

Tap any tile and Club now opens: four short lists, one thing to do on each line. Go there for someone out somewhere, I'm going for the meet-up, Bail for a member who was held (it asks once before any money moves), See for a crew, and Say hi to the people who joined today. Nothing opens any deeper than that.

The chat: people first, the game in grey

Everything the game posts in the chat is now one grey line with a face, right where it happened: "Anna joined", "Maria is at Café Cordina", "Leo's party at Hugo's". When two or more come in a row, they fold into one line, "4 updates · Anna, Mark joined, 2 Meet here", and a tap opens them in place. No folders and no extra screens. Stickers and quick lines such as Meet here now sit behind the + next to the message box, so the chat itself stays clear.

Only what people write sends you a notification or counts as unread, plus a member's bail ask, because that one is urgent. The rest waits quietly in the tiles and the grey lines.

Invites keep their button

When someone sends the club a party, it keeps its own line with one button until it starts or fills: I'm going, then 🚶 Go there once it's on. Tap it and the line says "✓ You're going". A bank job that needs a crew shows Join, which takes you to the crew, as in a bank heist with friends. If a few invites pile up, each keeps its own line, and only one button on the screen is blue, so you always know what's first.

Why we changed it

Clubs are where friends meet in Malta Living, from coding nights at a Valletta café to Gossip and the friends you make there. Group chats in any app get noisy when bots and automatic posts share the space with people; as Nielsen Norman Group puts it, people should always know what's going on, without having to dig for it. The tiles do that job, and the chat is left for the conversation. It's all part of the Malta life simulator growing up around the people who play it.

Questions people ask

Do I still see when someone joins my club?

Yes. Today's joins are on the Joined tile, with Say hi in Club now, and each join is a grey line in the chat where it happened. They just don't ping you or count as unread any more.

Why didn't I get a notification for a party in my club?

A party sent to a club now shows on the Next tile and as its own line with I'm going, but it doesn't send a notification: only what people write does, plus a member's bail ask. Parties sent to you directly still notify you as before.

Can I still pay someone's bail from the club?

Yes. When a member is held, the Heist tile shows it in red with the time left. Tap it, then Bail in Club now; it asks once before paying, and the first to pay gets them out.

Are groups and private chats changing too?

No. Only club chats get the tiles and the grey lines. Groups and one-to-one chats look and notify exactly as they did.
