Opening week: your first thing is on the house in Malta Living

By

Every new place opening week in Malta Living now feels like an opening. When a place opens, its first 7 days are its opening week, and being one of the first in is worth something.

A phone inside a new place: "Welcome to Brown's Pharmacy, Mosta", opening week, visitor number, the thing on the house and the stamp

Your first visit

Walk into a place in its first week and you get a short welcome. It tells you which visitor you were ("you're visitor #214"), and two things that are yours:

  • The first thing you pay for there is on the house, up to €15: a coffee, a game, a tasting. It's never cash, never pay for a shift, never a bet or a risky move. It's only free during the opening week, and only once per place.
  • An opening stamp goes on your profile, under Badges, with the place and your visitor number. Early visitors get the small numbers.

The welcome shows once. After that, the place is yours to explore like any other.

Free means free

When the game says something is on the house, the price never leaves your balance. You won't see a charge and a refund in your Bank, because there's nothing to refund. The server decides it, so it's the same on every phone and can't be claimed twice.

The ribbon

If you're looking at the map when you get the opening card, a red ribbon is cut across the new place's front. It's a small moment, and it only plays once. You can read how places arrive in Just opened, and find them under Explore in Get around.

Never an empty room

Nobody likes walking into an empty bar on its first night. During opening week, the island's regulars drop in on new places more often, so there's someone at the lanes or the counter when you arrive.

Why an opening week?

New places are the reason to come back to the island. A place that opens quietly gets found by luck, a week later, by the few who wander past. An opening week gives everyone a reason to go in the first days: a free first coffee or game, a stamp that shows you were early, and a room that's already busy. It's small on purpose. It's about the price of one thing there and never cash, so nobody can farm it by hopping from place to place. And because the number on your stamp only goes up, the first visitors keep something nobody can get later.

Questions people ask

What counts as "the first thing you pay for"?

The first paid activity you do at that place during its opening week, if it costs €15 or less. Something dearer is charged as normal, and the free one is still waiting for you.

Can I get it at every new place?

Yes, once at each one, during that place's opening week.

Where's my stamp?

Open your profile and tap Badges. Opening stamps sit under your event stamps, newest first.

Why didn't I get one?

A place's opening week lasts 7 days from the moment it opens. Places that were open before this change have no opening week. The 38 sites on the bigger map will each have theirs as they open. Malta has plenty of real places opening every year; ours open one drop at a time. Play Malta Living free and be one of the first in. New here? Start with what Malta Living is.
