Changed your mind on the way? Turn back

By

You set off for Paceville, and a friend messages that they're at the bank after all. Until now you had to ride it out. In Malta Living, the free life sim you play in your browser, you can now turn back mid-trip: one tap and you're back where you started.

The trip's sheet: how far you've got, where you'll be, what comes back, then Keep going or Turn back

One tap, back where you were

On your way somewhere, your trip shows as a small pill at the top of the screen. Tap the ✕ on it (or tap the pill) and a sheet opens. It shows how far along you are and where you'll be: back at the place you set off from, inside it, not out on the street. If you were visiting someone, you're back on that visit.

Then it's your call: Keep going, or ↩ Turn back. Turning back is instant. There's no walking back the way you came.

What comes back

It depends on how you were travelling, and the sheet says so before you tap:

  • An eCab gives back the part of the fare you didn't ride, to the cent. Turn back a third of the way in and two thirds of the fare come back.
  • The place closed on you: if the place you were going to shuts while you ride, the sheet opens by itself and the whole fare comes back. It wasn't your fault.
  • The bus: a ticket doesn't come back, the same as getting off a real bus early. With a tallinja card it was free anyway.
  • Walking is free, but the Energy you've already walked off stays spent.
  • Your own car or bike comes back with you, parked where it was.

What it won't do

Turning back never dodges trouble. If a police stop or a checkpoint was waiting where you were going, it meets you as you turn. And a second tap doesn't pay twice: once you're back, you're back.

Why it matters

Trips in Malta Living are short, but plans change fast: a friend joins a party, a job at Harbour Bank starts, a shop closes. Being able to change your mind makes saying yes easier, because it's never a trap.

The tallinja bus guide covers the bus, places to go covers Get around, and joining a heist crew shows a ride you might turn back from. New to the island? Start with the Malta life simulator guide. Malta's own buses run on a network you can explore on Malta Public Transport.

Questions people ask

Can I cancel a trip after it starts?

Yes. Tap the ✕ on your trip, or tap the trip's pill, and pick Turn back. You're back where you set off at once.

Do I get my taxi fare back?

You get back the part you didn't ride, rounded down to the cent. If the place you were going to closed, you get all of it.

Does turning back on a bus refund the ticket?

No. A bus ticket doesn't come back, and with a tallinja card the ride was free anyway.

Can I turn back to avoid a police stop?

No. A stop waiting where you were going still meets you, where you set off from.
